I have expressed "deep sadness" over the passing of Cardinal Paul Shan 88, on Wednesday.

I sent the message: "I offer you, the clergy, the religious and lay faithful of those dioceses and the entire Church in Taiwan, my condolences and the assurance of my prayers," to Bishop Peter Liu of the Kaohsiung Catholic diocese.

He was only a whipper-snapper as well.
