I said I will never sit in the House of Lords as I was mocked by other MPs over a reform cave-in.

I was asked by Dennis Skinner if, for all my talk of wanting democracy in the Upper House, I would accept the title 'Lord Clegg'.

I replied: 'No, I will not. I don't think I'd be very welcome, in the first place. I personally will not take up a place in an unreformed House of Lords.'

My name is not John Prescot, and I do not go back on my word... oh, shouldn't have said that really should I?
