Ed Miliband is taking his first family summer breaks immediately before and after becoming Labour leader, to spend two weeks on a Greek island with his wife, Justine Thornton, and their two sons, Daniel and Samuel.

The prime minister, his wife Samantha and their two young daughters and son are also heading for a 3 week European holiday, the location of which is yet to be disclosed, but there is more security beibg built into a chateau in Greece next to the Sheraton Rhodes Resort hotel?

I will be sticking with a tried and trusted formula of a week in a villa my family owns in France followed by a week in the town in Spain where my wife's banking family live.

So, if my diary dissapears for a while then, don't be surprised.
