Ken Livingstone - My Fake Diary
Sunday, 26 August 2012
This was in the Telegraph, and amazed me:
It's easy to overstate both the calmness of the Norwegian reaction to horror and the difference of our own.
Anyone who lived in London in July 2005 will remember the unity that came over the city after the bombings of 7/7.
Whatever you think of Ken Livingstone, and most don't think much, the speech he gave extolling London's togetherness - "black and white, Muslim and Christian" - was his finest hour, and the city responded in kind.
The wounded, and the relatives of the dead, like the Utoya survivors, rarely descended into talk of vengeance, instead trying to understand what would move someone to these actions.
No doubt there's something human which makes us want to band together in the face of horror.
That made me proud!
