I was accused of a deliberate snub to the Dalai Lama yesterday as I forged closer links with China's hard-line communist regime. Well why not, I am planning a return to public office, and I've visited China four times since stepping down as an MP in 2010.

And yes, I've also been paid by a think tank set up on the instructions of the Chinese premier.

Why not?
