The restaurant was run by Liam Goodwill, a former star of Gordon Ramsey's F Word programme who won widespread acclaim for his ambitious menu, which featured dishes such as crisp lambs tongues with butterbeans, wild garlic and morels.

The Albero restaurant, based in the Northampton College building in Lower Mounts, closed on Wednesday following a consultation period with staff.

Bosses claimed the restaurant was not making enough money, despite earning plaudits from food lovers across the county for its innovative Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.

Fuckin' shame!
