I have spoken to US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner about the potential implications of the Standard Chartered probe on the City of London.

On three occasions this week I have had conversations with Geithner about the New York State Department for Financial Services' (DFS) investigation into the bank after it alleged that over a 10-year stretch it hid 60,000 transactions with Iran.

Standard Chartered was quick to deny these claims and issued a statement saying the DFS had presented an inaccurate portrayal of the facts.

Well an accurate portrayal of the facts is the last thing we politicians want!
