My sweet natured red haired youthful assistant Danny Alexander is to ask Whitehall to make another £16bn worth of savings - on top of the swingeing cuts we have already made.

The move will "fundamentally change and improve financial management across all organisations spending public money"... at least that is what I told him to day. No voters will understand, so no damage can be done.

Best I get him to ask after recent event I think.
