Ed Balls was jeered by union militants yesterday after he refused to back calls for a rise in public sector wages.

The shadow chancellor told the TUC conference it was more important to prevent further job losses than overturn the current Government-imposed pay freeze.

His comments, were greeted with boos and cries of "Shame!"

Angry Unison official Liz Cameron said: "Why is it we hear you and Ed Miliband supporting this Tory pay freeze when we are fighting to make ends meet?"

Got to be careful here, the Unions have given us £2.7m this year...
