Meet Lenny at the Crossroads

Comic relief and funnyman Lenny Henry is to re-open Crossroads.

The self-styled 'Birmingham buffoon' is already the face of the 'Anyone Inn' but having caught the B&B bug is now branching out on his own.

Crossroads, the 1970s soap opera famous for its 'Miss Diane' and wobby sets, finally shut shop following its famous fire in the 80s.

Now Henry plans to breathe new life into the brand by turning it into a Novotel-type stopover for businessmen and small events.

Said a spokesperson: "Lenny's always been interested in B&Bs but it wasn't until the 'Anyone Inn' that he realised how much money could be made. He's not getting any younger, or any funnier, so he's thinking ahead to a long term investment."

The comedian is also in talks with pop group Blazing Squad to help launch the venture with their hit 'Meet Me at the Crossroads'.

When told, actor Paul Henry (no relation) who played Benny in the popular soap said: "This has made my day. I'm doing minicabs at the moment but I've still got the hat so if Len wants me to play my old character, I'd be well up for it."

Crossroads is expected to open in 2018. Henry is currently looking for investors. Those said to be interested include Roy Hudd and Stu 'Crush a Grape' Francis.
