It would be the greatest political comeback since Nelson Mandela went from prison to president. Is it possible that Gaddafi could return from hiding to lead again the country he ruled for 40 years?
Surveys have indicated that support for the deposed leader may be as high as 50%, meaning that if democratic elections are held, as is likely, then Gaddafi could become elected leader. Many Libyans are fed up with the fighting in their country, as well as the lack of services.
One man in Tripoli said, "Things were better under Gaddafi. Who else has experience of running this country?"
Although it is unlikely that Gaddafi will stand for election, it remains an intriguing possibility. This would also make Libya the first country ever to depose a leader through revolution and then reinstate him democratically.
There is probably a reason why that hasn't happened before.
