Bowling Green, KY, - Oprah Winfrey has invited each Miner and their family for a vacation in the United States. Winfrey, however, is being criticized for giving the miners a rather insensitive gift, the gift of caving.
"I refuse to let my husband go," said Maria Valesquez, "Gracias, but no Gracias! Why she can't give us a car! We need a car, why send us to a stinking cave, what flaming bi...!"
Something was lost in the translation there, but you get Maria's point. Other miner's and family members had similar comments and anger at the former talk show host, who is known for her generosity. Oprah was not available for comment but her manager Loofa Spalma was made available.
"We were trying to find something that the families could share together and identify with. Oprah didn't actually choose the caves, she chose it from a list of options we gave her. Among the choices were Disney World, The San Diego Zoo, The Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Hawaii and New York City. Mammoth Caves was actually a mistake leftover from an old list, but that's what the big "O" chose.
