Dickie Ferguson of Perth lost his legs in an industrial accident in 1998. Since then, he has been unable to locate steady employment and has been in near constant pain. The former construction worker is now upset that he can't even make a bargain with Satan.
From his apartment, Ferguson said "I meant to do what lots of folks have done, sell my soul to the devil so that I could have enough money to send my children to good schools and see that my family was properly kept."
Dickie contends, however, that a mistake in the paperwork has caused his application to be rejected. "I shouldn't have had the computer on spellcheck when I was typing out my letter. The word that I meant to read as soul came out as sole. That is what ended up causing all of the problems."
"I guess that the devil's bookkeeping staff says that there's not much in for it for him to buy the sole off a man with no feet."
"In fact, their letter of rejection was kind of insulting. They told me that I should be more on my toes about such silly blunders. I felt like such a heel when I told the kids that I wouldn't have the money for a college education after all."
