ISLAMABAD: About the only thing that Pakistan's cricketer Imran Khan has done well is play cricket. Beyond that he has had no success as evidenced by numerous issues and an abysmal political career- devoid of any vision. He has consistently shown flawed judgment in his political assessments. Consider when he ran into the streets heralding Musharraf's 'democratic' coup, hand-feeding celebratory sweets to passers-by. That was only one of his many, major faux pas.
During Musharraf's 3rd 'unconstitutional - democratic' term Imran finally saw the light, decided to jump on the BB-PPP-led 'great democratic revolution' band-wagon that takes place in Pakistan every 6 months and 'marched with the people for the restoration of the judiciary' - only to find himself a wanted man.
So, following a quick SOS call to ex-wife Jemima in London (disturbing her club-ing regime) Imran donned a burqa and went into hiding. Another 15 minutes of fame for the Wrath of Khan.
Well, Pakistan is once-again back in "history-making, democratic revolution" mode - only this time the choir leader is Nawaz Sharif. Not a particularly great role model for Imran but if it buys him 30 seconds of air time the great Khan will settle for it. After all there isn't much nowadays to keep him in the limelight.
A South Asia expert is now reporting that IK has gone back to the future - done a deja vu and decided that he is 'a very important Pak political figure" - hoping that through a process of elimination, he could probably become next in line to rule.
So, once again he has pulled out the old burqa and 'gone into hiding'.Another fleeting 15 minutes of fame, perhaps?
The current Pak Inferior Minister said : "We have no idea who he is hiding from - maybe from his own shadow. Maybe he just likes to wear the burqa like Osama does when he travels outside his Islamabad mansion".
