High Wycombe, Bucks - (Disaster Press): Four RAF Euro-Frighter Typhoons were scrambled from RAF Strike Command Centre, High Wycombe yesterday to successfully intercept and slap down eight Russian Tupolev 95 bombers bound for Frankfurt airport and the USAF Ramstein base in Germany.
"We have foiled yet another major terrist plot packaged to look like Al Qaeda," Ministry of Defence sources said today after confirmation from German counterparts that the Tupovlev bombers were successfully hounded out of NATO airspace.
There has been no explanation from Russia's hard men at the Defense Ministry in Moscow.
But top NATO military intelligence chiefs have put this latest action down to President Vladimir Putin's baby rattle shaking ahead of an impending disaster for the nation's football team next week.
"Putin's feeling real sore at the moment," NATO top brass souces said today.
"It's that England v Russia European Football Championship 2008 qualifier in Wembley on September 12 that's got him seething.
"A wall of Russian oligarchy money has already been taken by internet spread-yer-legs-betting bookies Aintgottaprayer.com for a five nil thrashing by Steve McLaren's men.
"Can't think why else he might be so pre-menstrual."
