New York - (Smoke N Mirrors): The North Face holdall at the core of a Houdini-like death of spy-in-the-bag codebreaker Gareth Williams has suddenly popped up in a New York insider dealing case.
Former Wall Street hedge fund high flier Donald Longueuil is accused of destroying key evidence from a covert ring scam 'in a Manhattan garbage truck'.
Prosecutors said on Tuesday Longueuil told a fellow accomplice that he took two external hard drives from a computer 'before hiding them inside packets stuffed into his black North Face jacket'.
The New York court also heard how Longueuil subsequently scoured 20 Manhattan blocks for a municipal dumpster to dispose of the damning evidence.
US attorney-at-law Preet Bharara described the allegations as 'a sad chronicle not only of criminal conduct but also its brazen cover up' involving outrageous trafficking in material, non-public information.
That coat 'could be highly significant' Wall Street conspiracy theorists commented this morning - given its manufacture by the same sports goods retailer involved in the MI6 cryptographer case.
The case continues.
