The Republican caucus in Congress dramatically upped the ante today in their proposed change to the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Attached to the proposal is a directive to change the inscription on the Statue of Liberty!

The inscription that has been on the statue since The French gave it to the US in 1886, reads: "Give me your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me;
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

The new inscription will have the following changes, according to Congressman Jim DeMint of South Carolina: "Give me your tired, your poor in spirit, your white Anglo Saxons protestants yearning to be free."

The rest of the inscription now reads:
"The wretched wealthy of your teeming shore.
Send these, the white Anglo Saxon, evangelical Christians that believe in smaller government, bigger tax breaks for the wealthy, and intend to register as Republicans, to me. To the rest, I lift my middle finger beside the golden door." "The hand holding the torch will be modified," states DeMint.

The caucus also proposed that signs be placed on buoys three miles offshore that reads, "Non-Anglos: Drop Your Anchor Babies Here."

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
