A captain for Virgin Airlines is being called a bozo..?.. a Hero for landing his malfunctioning airplane in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Captain Phil Majors of Newark, New Jersey had just taken off from the Tampa area with 600 plus people aboard when a flock of blackened seagull crashed into his right engine.
The plane began to lose altitude so that Captain Majors began looking for a safe place to land.
"There wasn't much time and we were going down steadily so I remembered the situation in the Gulf of Mexico."
Captain Majors then told the passengers over the screaming and retching into barf bags that he was going to land them safely in the Gulf waters.
And that's what happened. Captain Majors guided the plane smoothly onto the oil slick which slid the plane onto the oil-slickened beach on Pensacola Beach.
Everyone survived. All were sick. But Captain brought them all in safely.
"I would like to thank the BP Oil management which saved the lives of myself, the crew and over 600 passengers" stated Captain Majors, whom we believe will soon be promoted to Major Captain in the very near future.
