HOLLYWOOD - The much-awaited movie Sinko de Mayo has opened in East Los Angeles on Cinco de Mayo (May 5). The movie stars Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek.
Banderas portrays a New Jersey mafioso, Alfredo "Parmesan Freddie" Gorgonzola who hides $13 million in drug money in the mayonnaise-filled kitchen sink of his girlfriend, an ex Victoria's Secret model Marsala Maraschino, played by Salma Hayek.
The film is directed by Clint Eastwood and also stars Oscar De La Hoya, George Lopez, Eva Longoria-Parker, and Niclole Kidman as Marcia Cross.
The film's soundtrack includes songs by Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, Los Bravos, Los Angeles, and Los ZZ Top.
Banderas and Hayek actually sing a duet on a song that plays as the closing credits are rolling on the screen. The song was written by Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger and is titled, "The Ballad of The Dallas Drugstore Cowboy and The Pomona Pavement Princess."
Eastwood filmed the movie in several southern California locals including La Brea, La Habra, La Puente, La Mirada, La Canada, La Verne, and LaLaLand.
Banderas called the film the best motion picture that he has ever made. He said he loved working with Eastwood. He said that several times he messed up and called him Rowdy Yates and Dirty Harry.
Antonio confessed that on a couple of occasions he tripped up and called Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria-Parker and once he called Eva Longoria-Parker, Nicole Kidman.
Banderas said that he has seen a doctor about this problem and he is in the process of getting some special pills which hopefully will not only improve his memory, but his very strong Spanish accent as well.
Eastwood said that the screenplay was actually written by Alfredo "Parmesan Freddie" Gorgonzola himself.
He said that when he first saw the screenplay's draft it was entitled, "Hey, Marsala, I said Filla The Sinko With Mayo Not Mustard."
Eastwood was not to happy with the title. But after talking to Grogonzola and letting him know that he was interested in purchasing the movie rights "Parmesan Freddie" was only to happy to change the title.
Eastwood said that Gorgonzola and his beautiful wife, the former Margo Tecumseh (Miss Tacoma Thighs of 1999) invited him to dinner at his uncle Garibladi "Sardine Lips" Stromboli's restaurant Mozzarella Timmy's located just south of the Slauson Cutoff.
Clint, who portrayed Rowdy Yates on the old television western "Rawhide" said that he had The Fettucine Alfredo Deluxe Fabuloso #7 Plate and that it was the best Italian food that he had ever eaten.
And he remarked that during his spaghetti western days he had eaten at some of the finest restaurants in Italy including Rome's It Tastes A Lot Like Sophia Restaurant, The Princess Pizza Palatial Palace in Naples, and Venice's Gondoleer Guido's Grafitti Diner.
Eastwood, Hayek, and Banderas all attended the movie premier along with special guests President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, Nadya Suleman, Simon Cowell, Joan Rivers, Melissa Rivers, Melissa Etheridge, Melissa Rycroft, and Melissa Gilbert.
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Melissa Manchester could not attend the premier because she was on tour performing in Boston along with Alabama and Kansas).
