By James Dean Bradfield, (BBC Online) - "To describe this film as a piece of crap would be to run the risk of a discourse that would never again rise above the excremental" wrote self-declared iconoclast Christopher Hitchens in the online magazine Slate, referring to Fahrenheit 9/11, the new Michael Moore film.
In a leaked and as yet unreleased Slate article Hitchens confessed, "The more I think about it, I realise I'm a little bit Michael Moore. Let's look at the similarities: I'm a bit pompous, consider myself a spokesperson for 'the people' and have a felicitous approbation for big words. In other words I use false language to project a false image. Like Moore, whom despite a firm grounding in the English language, affects a man on the street's speech patterns --- it's very condescending".
Christopher Hitchens could not be contacted. A spokesperson said "He's gone to ground, after admitting he's a little bit Michael Moore his whole world has been shaken. We think he is working hard on his latest book 'Slate 666', or writing 'George W Bush is a direful bore' around the world, in public lavatories, using shit as his ink".
