Election day is upon us, and tomorrow we will know who the next US president will be. But the question on everyone's lips is: Can Americans overcome their instinctive prejudices and vote for a bald man?
The answer is probably no.
For years bald men in the US have had to live a second-class existence alongside more hirsute Americans. In Alabama it was illegal for a bald man to sit on a bus until 1972. Bald people are routinely insulted in the street and called names like "baldy", "shiny-head" and "wigger". Not only that, but America hasn't had a bald man as president since the dawn of television.
McCain's advisers are already regretting his decision not to wear a wig.
