Condoleezza Rice's hopes of becoming president have been dashed after it was revealed that President Rice is a registered trade mark.
The Thai food company, based in Bangkok, have threatened a lawsuit should Ms Rice attempt to profit from the use of their company name.
Mr Boonpiam Eamroongroj, managing director of President Rice, announced to reporters this morning, "not only do I have an even more ridiculous name than 'Condoleezza', but I also hold the rights to the registered trade mark President Rice. We will stop at nothing to prevent anyone else using this name. Yes, I will even throw my own rice at her."
President Rice Products Public Company Limited has been trading under this name for several years and even has a web site at http://www.mama.th.com/PR_Profile.htm .
"การประกวดภาพวาดระบายสี บรรจุภัณฑ์ครั้งที่ 1 คลิกที่นี่", said Dr Thanet Norbhoompipat, Independent Director of the company. Unfortunately our translator had nodded off by that stage, so we're unable to tell you what that means. He looked intelligent though.
Condoleezza was unavailable for comment.
