Public cursing or swearing on the street, in bars or any location outside of the home has been banned in the small town of Middleborough, Mass.
It is now illegal to use the F-Word and transgressors could face fines up to $2000 or/and 30 days in the jail. Plans are now afoot to make cursing in public an offensive in all 50 states.
While many are in favor of the new law some, mainly British tourists, who use the F-word in their everyday vocabulary and do not consider swearing to be offensive are worried that holidays to America could be ruined should a family member inadvertently drop an F-bomb, something that is entirely normal in British society.
However, Mimi Duphilly, an 82 year old widow from Boston, who is a church member and advocate of the new law told me "I will be glad when the new law is passed, I am sick to death of hearing the F-word bandied around all the time, it is just disgusting, it is a real cunt of a word."
