California - A thirty year whodunnit mystery was reopened today amid new evidence in the unexplained death of West Side Story star Natalie Wood.
The actress' body was found floating a mile away from the yacht Splendour off Santa Catalina island in California after a 'row' with her husband Robert Wagner.
Police reports from the original 1981 probe noted that Wood, co-star with Christopher Walken in the movie Brainstorm, was partially clothed in a night gown, socks and jacket.
A capsized dinghy was found beached nearby which investigators linked to Wood's death.
Co-incidentally the Wood case popped up some ten years later in an international investigation into the death by drowning of renegade UK former newspaper proprietor and serial bankrupt Robert Maxwell.
At that time some UK Red Tops described the incident as 'having gone swimming with the fishes' with an eventual Coroner's verdict of misadventure.
During the Maxwell Inquest the Wood case was cited as one of several unexplained deaths at sea of well known celebrities.
Today's revelations may yet see a review of such background material after investigators began a probe into new evidence connected with the actress' drowning.
Robert Wagner is 81.
