PC Smug Arsehole has become one of the most hated people in Britain after a jury found him responsible for the unlawful death of innocent bystander Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protest in London two years ago.
Tomlinson, a family man with a wife and two sons, was not involved in the protests but was trying to get home, when he was set upon by the officer who had just beaten a BBC cameraman senseless. The policeman baton whipped then shoved Tomlinson to the ground. Tomlinson, who had been selling newspapers in the street, struggled for his life, stumbled a few steps then fell and expired. The whole incident was filmed by amateur cameramen.
The officer, backed by the Metropolitan Police, initially insisted he had done nothing wrong and had merely gently pushed Tomlinson away. He claimed that his badge must have fallen off his shoulder during the protests. All policemen and women are required by law to display their badges to the public so that if they use excessive force, their victims will know who they are.
The Metropolitan Police sought to cover up the unlawful killing by getting inept former Home Office pathologist Dr Freddie Patel to produce a report which said that Tomlinson had died of a heart attack. This was contradicted by several other pathologists whose expert conclusions were that Tomlinson had died "from a stiff beating". However, a CPS prosecution was dropped on the grounds of "insufficient evidence". Patel has since been suspended from medical practice while he is being investigated on the ground that he keeps writing reports which exonerate the Metropolitan Police.
The jury at the inquest into Tomlinson's death returned a verdict of unlawful death and added "We think that Mr. Tomlinson was unlawfully killed by PC Scumbag who exceeded reasonable force and beat the shit out of an innocent man."
Earlier, during cross-examination by the barrister representing Tomlinson's family, had been asked what he had to say about the fact that a man whom he had beaten died minutes later, and he replied "Oops".
