A blazing Airbus Boeing 727 Jumbo Jet plunged tens of thousand feet in seconds over the raging waters of the Atlantic as the 1200 passengers on the plummeting jet screamed in terror. As the aircraft plunged 90,000 feet from its cruise altitude of 78,000 feet in seconds, all eight propellers of its engines were torn off as it passed through the sound barrier at 4 times the speed of sound.
The captain of the 'plane, on a flight from the Greek capital Rome, to London's Glasgow Airport, had been warned before departure not to take off by Mr. Aino Itall, a retired lavatory cleaner from Swindon, who claimed that 'voices' had told him that the aircraft was unfit to fly.
As the pilot wrestled with the control surfaces in a heroic attempt to control the aircraft, the chief steward, Ray Jing Puf, tiptoed daintily down the aisles ensuring that passengers' seat belts were fastened and seat backs in the upright position.
Miraculously, the pilot was able to restore control to the aircraft seconds before it hit the sea and fly it safely to Southampton Airport in South Wales where the passengers are recovering after their ordeal with nice cups of tea and egg sandwiches provided by the Womens' Institute.
One passenger, Mr. T. Osspot, 49, of 11 St. Stevens Road, Blingfield, SJ99 6TY, who declined to be identified, said that his son who had a friend whose hairdresser lived near an airfield in Billingsthorpe and he had heard from a local vicar that 'aircraft were the invention of the devil' and said he would 'never set foot on one of them contraptions again as long as God gave him breath.'
