A man standing outside the Home Office today admitted that the new identity of Jon Venables, the brutal killer of toddler Jamie Bulger on Merseyside in 1993, has indeed been compromised and is available on the internet.
The spokesman didn't say exactly where the identity had been revealed but hinted that anyone searching for the information would have to trawl through a mountain of garbage to find it, adding a cautionary note to the effect that everything you read on the internet isn't necessarily true.
A newly released prisoner told us just this morning that Venables is easy enough to locate should a researcher be sufficiently determined to track him down.
Apparently there's a long queue of lags outside his cell lining up to give him a flipping good kicking.
