Diminutive former cabinet minister and MP for Salford, Hazel Blears, got slightly more than she bargained for when she went out and about in Salford, Greater Manchester, to woo the voters.
Showing the electorate that she was 'one of the people' plainly didn't quite cut the mustard, as she received a resounding message telling her 'no you're not.'
As she pounded the hustings, Blears' Citroen Xsara Picasso was given a bit of treatment by local hoolies, who slashed tyres and broke the windows, obviously outraged by her contemptuous attitude towards local people, and her not insignificant role in the MP expenses scandal.
Blears tried to brush the incident off by claiming that these were the actions of bored teens on a hot summer afternoon (and it's not often you can say that about Salford) but critics were quick to condemn her reaction by claiming that her blatant corruption was the true motivation behind the act of wanton vandalism.
PM Gordon Brown was reportedly keeping an eye on the situation. But just the one. Because he only has one.
More as we get it.
