Liverpool star Steven Gerrard today burst into tears and can't stop blubbing like a baby, as the realisation finally sank in that Liverpool are distinctly not going to be crowned Premiership Champions anytime soon.
Gerrard was joined by team mate Jamie Carragher in a sudden outpouring of pent up emotion. The more that friends and family tried to comfort the pair, the louder they bawled.
"You can't blame the lads," a friend said. "For the last few weeks they've been clinging to the unlikely hope that the team could pip Manchester United to the title. As per Rafa's instructions they've dutifully made media statements to the effect that they no longer believed that they could win the title, even though the opposite was the truth. It's all just come to a head now. Rafa's lost the mind games and the lads come out of it all empty handed once again."
"That's right," added a neighbour. "All that pent up emotion had to find some sort of release, and now it has. It's finally sunk in. The lads have shot their bolt."
A parade of mourners have been laying flowers outside the Gerrard residence, and Gerrard and Carraghers heart rending wailing and sobbing has been reported from as far away as Rhyl.
More as we get it.
