Two football fans returned home today from Euro 2000. David Kennedy and John Fitzpatrick, both from Polesworth in Warwickshire, arrived back at Coventry airport earlier today. David Kennedy, who would be 32 if he had arrived back on time, but is now 36, told us the story.
We were celebrating the French victory in a little cafe on the French / Belgium border, when the owner Pierre and his wife Mimi invited us to stay on for the celebrations. Always up for a lock-in we said yes. Anyway, one thing led to another. Eventually the Police arrived, because the neighbours had complained about the noise. It was only then that we realised that it was 2004!
When asked what he was going to do next Mr Kennedy said "I'll watch the rest of Euro 2004 then see if i've still got my job [ as manager of the local Homebase]".
Mr Patrick confirmed that the bar tab stood at 235,000 Euros.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
