A Royal Navy submariner was fired from a torpedo tube on the latest Hunter Killer Attack submarine HMS Astute, currently undergoing acceptance trials in a secret location. The unharmed but shaken Sailor was polishing the interior of the torpedo tube as part of a planned maintenance and servicing routine referred to as "Buffing".
"He had been in there some time and was doing a pretty thorough job, but seems to have been forgotten during the hectic, trials environment" a Navy source remarked.
The "Sun-Dodger" had been wearing lightweight breathing apparatus to protect him from the polish fumes and thus was able to breathe during the short post ejection transit to the target, an inflatable half-size Frigate.
On being returned to his mother ship it was noted that the particular Sailor "Hadn't looked as clean for weeks".
