All the UK government's top official bodies knew about the secret and went to extraordinary lengths to hide the facts from the public while attempting to bringe pressure on the Princess to seek proper treatment for her addition.
And while she attempted many times to get help in the form of counselling and a variety of unorthodox therapies such as colonic irrigation, the Princess never got to grips with the idea that the only way to recover from addiction was to actually stop taking the drug.
Files found today have revealed that everybody at the top in Buckingham Palace knew about ths situation - including Queen ELizabeth, Prince Philip, the Queen Mother,Charles, Fergie, etc.
And All UK Prime Monsters from Margaret Thatcher onwards right through to today's Gordon Brown were kept fully briefed about her addiction.
Today Metropolitan Police sources refused to comment on allegations that the failed 2002 prosecution of Diana's butler Paul Burrell failed because the allegations of him stealing from his employer were underpinned by his threats to out her smack dealers if he was ever prosecuted for "taking one or two mementoes of her for safekeeping".
Burrell's Old Bailey trial collapsed after official reports that Queen Elizabeth suddenly "remembered the butler saying he was looking after some of Diana's effects".
