League Two outfit, Macclesfield Town, have fined every player, their manager, assistant manager and all fans who attended the fixture against Wycombe Wanderers on February 26, after an injury-time brawl which resulted in much laughter.
Town chairman Mike Rance said:
"We have concluded the actions of Macclesfield Town players on the pitch could not be condoned, and the supporters were no better. We are a struggling club, finding things difficult financially, and this will raise some much-needed cash."
Both clubs have requested a personal hearing for their misconduct charges.
Rance went on:
"I have decided to fine fans £300 each. That'll teach 'em."
One man who was at the game, Town fan Mike Ramshacklesworth, said:
"I think it's a bit of a bloody cheek. I can't afford a fine. I'm on the dole. Mind you, there is that bit of window cleaning that I do on the side..."
Others were in agreement. Colin Eckerslike, a Macclesfield supporter through-and-through, told us:
"If they fine me, I'll go and watch Stockport!"
The match, which Wycombe won 1-0, was referee James Adcock's debut in a Football League contest. He has since become a boxing referee.
