Miss Congeniality is an award given to the friendliest and most outgoing and helpful girl in a beauty pageant. Until now, it has never before been given to an athlete at the Olympic games. Sweden's Ivana Phuque has been voted by a large number of athletes to receive this award, having captured all of the heterosexual male votes (basically everyone but the figure skaters).
Phuque was so excited at the announcement that she dropped to her knees (not an unfamiliar position for her while in Vancouver) and cried. After gaining control of emotions, Ivana said "it feels so good to be on top."
The decision to award her the Miss Congeniality prize did draw criticism from some of the female athletes. "Of course the men like her best," said Hilda Braunschweiger of the German Women's Hockey Team. She wears the tightest and thinnest of tops and no bra and runs around in the cold all of the time. It gives her two very obvious reasons to be a favorite around here."
Another detractor who wished to remain anonymou (but it was Nancy Troutsky of the American team, who fell flat on her ass three times and came in last) said that "figure skaters are supposed to fly through the air, but I think that she spends more time on her back."
Cereal manufacturers have also revealed that she will appear on an upcoming box of Wheaties, because "this is the type of athlete that makes men stand up and pay attention."
American, Canadian, Russian, and several other teams have named her their team mascot.
