Inside the small town of Caputh just outside of Berlin lies the summerhouse of world-famous Albert Einstein. Purchased in 1929 by the celebrity physicists, Einstein spent three summers there before the Nazis took command in 1933.
"Albert loved spending his time here" proclaims his family in a letter dated July 7th. 1931, but not even they knew of his secret journal that he wrote in every night.
The property which has been under ownership disputes for nearly 75 years has hidden one of sciences greatest treasures.
Einstein's lost journal which was found under a loose floorboard next to the stone fireplace in June 2008 contains some of the deepest and most private thoughts of one of the worlds greatest thinkers.
One of the most startling entries in the book dated June 23rd. 1930, "I was wrong! I've been a careless fool! My formula for the theory of relativity is wrong! In all my excitement I forgot a very important detail in my notation, it has eaten at me nearly these 15 years and I figure it will chew on me 15 more".
The journal goes on to explain that when he wrote his formula E=MC2, he forgot to note the positive and negative states of matter. The correct notation for his formula is E=+/-MC2. "It's too late to change it now" Einstein wrote near the end of his entry, I just hope the world never discovers my folly!
