A New York writer working on a book about the gay lifestyle, he's tackling the subject in a unique way.
Having read that Pastor Ted Haggard 'became' straight after a three-week course of treatment, Jay decided to seek a three-week way to 'become' gay. To his delight, he was able to find a "Make Me Gay" course at a local community college, and he immediately signed up.
Jay has confided to a Spoof reporter, "I'm not sure I'll want to remain gay forever or just for the duration of the book project. I'll go with the flow." He's sure, however, that he wants to remain gay long enough to accomplish a number of goals: celebrating Gay Pride Day, participating in a Greenwich Village Halloween Parade, completely redecorating his apartment, updating his wardrobe (he'll be attending the fashion shows of Armani, Thom Browne, Duckie Brown and John Bartlett, among others), and setting up color-coded filing systems for all his important papers and kitchen spices.
Who knows what the future will hold for Jay? Whenever he's ready to switch back, he need only sign up for the college's three-week "Make Me Straight" course. (No problem, that's taught in fall semesters, whereas the 'Gay' conversion one is featured in the spring.)
The Spoof plans to follow Jay's journey, wherever it takes him, and will report to readers in a special series, "Going all the Way with Jay." Stay tuned.
