No recording device allowed so we at The Guard Dog sent one of our top reporters to Downing Street with photographic memory for all details. Several gentlemen stood by, some with tiny American flags as cuff links.

"So, then, Mr. Prime Minister, you and the Americans decided to spy on your guests at the 09 G-20 meetings in London--"

"No, no, no. We wouldn't call it 'spy on.' No, no, no. We were merely interested."

"Computers monitored, phone calls intercepted, even internet cafes where email traffic was carefully observed . . ."

"Free. Note this service was supplied at no charge."

"Yes, Prime Minister, but surely there was no terrorist issue here?"

"We're always on guard. We must, as you know, be ever watchful of the possible."

"So your primary motivation, although you did not inform participants, was guarding for security, as a father watches over his children?"

"Yes! Very nice! I think so. There is a paternalism here. Definitely."

"You mean instead of Big Brother it's Big Daddy?"

"Yes, yes. After all, who is it that's making the globe safe these days? Everywhere you look? We're spot on with the job-that is, every spot we can get on to. Really, I think this revelation of our protection at the 09 G-20 summit deserves praise."

"But you-"

"That's right. We're inclined to be modest. So we kept it quiet."

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
