Irrepressible comedienne Joan Rivers was arrested in New York's Greenwich Village yesterday after being charged with wearing a mask in public, which is still a misdemeanor offense although post 9/11 lawmakers are trying to change the infraction to a felony.
Rivers was apprehended as she exited the front entrance of Saks Fifth Avenue's flagship store.
The haggard 39-year-old was quickly released on bail after a battery of attorneys arrived at Manhattan South precinct with paperwork from a clinic in Bayonne, New Jersey where Rivers underwent her most recent face lift.
The 23rd reworking of Ms. Rivers' face has left her muscular and neurological functions somewhat impaired and the distraught comedienne's lawyers have inferred she might sue the city.
