HOLLYWOOD - After five nominations, Jeff Bridges has finally won an Oscar for best actor. The son of Lloyd Bridges and brother of Beau Bridges won for his portrayal of Otis "Bad Apple" Blake in the film Crazy Heart.
Blake is a down and out country music 'geetar picker' who due to his excessive drinking, smoking, and constant sneezing now only plays one-night stand gigs at places like Buckaroo Becky's Bar & Grill in Odessa, Texas; the Sooner The Better Bar in Enid, Oklahoma; and the New Mexican Cantina in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Jeff Bridges said that he turned to Gary Busey and Nick Nolte for advice on how to portray someone who drinks way too much, cusses way too much, and pees out in bar parking lots way too much.
Bridges said that one of his all-time country music idols, Willie Nelson, taught him how to play the guitar. Bridges said that Nelson taught him 19 chords and together they co-wrote two of the film's 12 songs.
The first song that Nelson and Bridges wrote was entitled "I Kissed Her On The Mesa, But I Sure A-Shootin' Would Have Preferred To Have Kissed Her On Her Como Se Llama."
The second song was a true story inspired by Nelson entitled, "Girl, I'd Ride My Horse Sidesaddle Down Fort Worth's Main Street At High Noon Just To Prove My Love For You."
In a non-related story. Donald Rumsfeld wanted to be a contestant on the upcoming Dancing With The Stars season but was turned down when producers looked at his feet and noticed that Rumsfeld has two left feet.
