The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed today the new process which will determine the winner of the "Best Picture" Oscar.
The voting process had been changed, in part due to some concerns that the summer blockbuster movies were unfairly not getting a chance to win the award due to their traditional poor quality, ill direction and poor acting.
However Studio Executives are now hoping that the new rules will see some of the bigger summer movies raking in Oscars.
The process is a points system, which will see the film with the most points awarded at the end of the year, winning the Oscar.
Points are awarded for various aspects of the film. For example, if Jack Nicholson is in the film you get 100 points. If Steve Guttenberg is in it, you actually lose 70 points.
If the film is directed by Michael Bay, you gain 75 points. If it is in black and white, you lose 10 points.
Further points are awarded for how much the film takes at the box office, and how many superheroes appear in it. Controversially, if the film is in a foreign language, it loses 50 points.
Following the announcement of the rules, it seemes that next summer's Spiderman 4 by Michael Bay (which will see Jack Nicholson playing Spidey, and Al Pacino playing Mary Jane) is very likely to take the award.
It also seems that Steve Guttenberg's comeback movie, set in Italy in the 14th century, for which he learned Italian for 4 years, and is shot in black and white is doomed to leave the actor / director Oscar-less.
