Hollywood, CA - Current King and Queen of pop, Beyonce Knowles and Jay Z Zee were last week delivered devastating news by their private accountant: the couple, like many other Hollywood couples, have taken a giant loss in earnings in the past financial year, as a direct result of the global recession.
Poor Beyonce bought in a meagre $90 million last year, down from $92 million in 2007. Husband Jay Z bought in a pathetic $72 million, down from $72.1 million the year before.
The couple have asked for privacy during this tough time and were unavailable for interviews. But a spokesperson for the duo said these were certainly trying times and they were just glad they had each other. They have spent the past week since learning the news in a state of shock, consoling each other. It is said that Beyonce has broken down in tears on more than one occasion.
Friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have stayed in close contact with the two during their time of grief. They have also had a tough year, with earnings of just $102 million between them, down from $103 million. They were invited over to Beyonce & Jay's palace for a BBQ last night. It is unknown what exactly occurred at the event, but it is rumoured that there were a lot of tears and platonic hugs.
It is not known when the richest couple in showbiz will be showing their faces again, but it could be quite awhile and take a number weeks in grief counselling. Although whether they can afford the grief counselling is quite another matter.
