(Reuton-LA) Today, pro-Buddhist group "Move Forward up the Karmic Ladder" urged moviegoers and theater owners to boycott "The Passion of the Christ 2: The Resurrection".
"This film is anti-Buddhist, undermines Buddhism and harms the Buddhists fight for Nirvana" said Move Forward up the Karmic Ladder spokesperson Howdy Polugin. "We've begun an email campaign to inform people of factual errors and baseless interpretation, reminding them of their duty to the one truth".
Reuton correspondent Mary Fortuity obtained an exclusive copy of the email. Mary describes the affect of the boycott on the theater owner that received the email; "They were pretty shook up. They didn't expect such a rabid response on religious grounds because religion is protected by the US Constitution".
The following is an abridged copy of the Move Forward up the Karmic Ladder campaign's email:
"The film [The Passion of the Christ 2] is based on poor research and scanty evidence ... Questionable facts such as the notion of resurrection and dating accuracy cannot be scientifically verified. The director of The Passion of the Christ 2: The Resurrection, More Gibson, is a known anti-Buddhist, who treads on insects and eats meat ... This film serves one purpose and one purpose only: To undermine Buddhism ... "
In a Reuton interview the film's director More Gibson dismissed Buddhist criticism: "So what? I eat meat and crush the occasional bug. This kind of religious argument is only to be expected, some people have no respect of the US Constitution and do not respect the religion of others. I hope that people of all creeds and religions will enjoy the movie".
The Passion of the Christ 2: The Resurrection opens on the 25th of June.
