Nottingham - (Ass Mess): TV presenter Chris Tarrant spent the night in a Nottingham slammer after being arrested in an Indian restaurant following a chapatti-slinging incident and refusing to pay the bill.
Eye witnesses say Tarrant claimed his meal had been rubbish and tried to leave without settling.
A row ensued which his companion tried to smooth over, asking him to at least "go 50/50" for what he had actually eaten.
But the 60 year old OBE celeb wouldn't back down and asked other diners what they thought of the food in an effort to make his point.
The mixed reaction only served to infuriate him so he gambled on his last lifeline to wriggle out of paying.
As he moved to reach for his cellphone to call a friend to help him out, the waiter said he "thought he was going to hit him" and rapidly countered the expected punch with a plate of sizzling-hot chapattis.
The melee that followed saw food flung everywhere as Tarrant knocked a manager to the ground before rubbing his face in a beef vindaloo.
Then somebody dialled 999 amid hurled dishes of chicken tikka masala and flying plates of roghan ghosh daubing the walls and smearing other diners.
Police say a man will appear before magistrates today charged with attempting to curry favor with local cops after offering them fifty quid to tear up any charges.
