Vietnam - (Rotters): A Vietnamese High Court judge has freed serial child sex offender Gary Glitter as part of the country's Lunar New Year amnesty following representations made by Downing Street confirming that the ageing entertainer has been given a Life Peerage for services to Youth Culture.
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, had received a three year sentence last March for a series of under-age sex offences. But news that the UK Prime Monster and his wife Cherie were to holiday with him at his Phuket beach hideaway in Thailand later this year smoothed things over for the lecherous old goat.
A British Consular official has confirmed that everything was above board with this new arrangement and cited the situation in the UK where over 600 sex offenders have been reported to be at large because 'prison is no place for these misfits'.
"The Cabinet is where most of them hide. Failing that there's always the House of Lords."
Gadd, 69, was unavailable for comment about his new-found elevation to the Upper House but his attorney said he felt confident there would be plenty of kindred spirits there to greet him on arrival: "I expect (Lord) Levy himself will show Gadd the ropes".
