Cheat Codes and Little Mix are riding high in the charts with their EDM pop hybrid tune "Only You" and now an exciting new 80s-sounding pop duo has covered it.
Yazoo, from Basildon in south east England, consist of former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke and soulful singer Alison Moyet. Despite being a new band there is a very strong 80s sound to their synthy pop music. Maybe they're time travelers from 1982 and a hint that time travel could very well exist??
Whilst the original is very chart friendly EDM, Yazoo's cover has a much more traditional electronic pop sound, with different lyrics. For instance, "dancing with your silhouette in places that we met" becomes "looking from a window above, it's like a story of love". We at The Spoof reckon Alison Moyet could sing the Yellow Pages, and that she is going to be a massive star!
Yazoo's debut album is set to be released later this year, with a working title of "Upstairs at Eric's". After hearing "Only You" we have a feeling that it is going to be a great album. And we are hoping for an 80s revival in the near future!
