A leaked report from the producers of the Channel 5 programme, Celebrity Big Brother, has suggested that the future of the show is in doubt due to the lack of suitably 'qualified' celebrities.
It is alleged that because so many celebrities have already either appeared on the show or on shows with similar formats, that the supply of genuine Z-list celebrities, desperate for work may well have been fully utilised.
The report also attributes the problem in part to the success of Operation Yewtree, the police investigation into child abuse allegations, which has led to the prosecution and imprisonment of many Z-list celebrities from the 1970's, who would otherwise have been available.
Producers have already been forced to engage the services of largely unknown entities from obscure reality TV shows and have even been forced to look to Z-listers from abroad to make up the numbers.
Unfortunately this has led to rather embarrassing opening episodes where the 'celebrities' are forced to introduce themselves, bringing into question their supposed celebrity status.
Channel 5 are currently considering bringing back celebrities who have already appeared in previous series. It is rumoured that Katie Price and Peter Andre have been approached to appear together.
Alternatively, after 15 years, it may well be time to bring Big Brother to an end and think of something new.
We, the viewing public, can only hope and pray that good sense and common decency prevails.
