Hollywood- Steven Spielberg denied reports that he placed a curse on the Burt Bacharach biopic and brought the project down incongruous and financially ruinous side-roads.
"Nobody gets Burt Bacharach more than me. Listen, I grew up with his songs but people have to understand the heroic sacrifices made by a young generation of Americans - my father's- who had no choice but go to war and come back with a heap of trauma induced communication issues which arguably launched my career as a manipulative and reactionary film-maker in thrall to the military. The father-son conflict is like the goose that laid the golden egg for me, I can't get enough of that! This country was almost destroyed by ungrateful hippies who disobeyed their parents. Well sir, all i got to say is thank God for Nixon and Ronald Reagan."
Burt Bacharach in collaboration with hip lyricist Hal David wrote a string of hits in the 1960s principally sung by Dionne Warwick which featured cool harmonies and catchy melodies.
