Today show host Matt Lauer was consoled by co-workers after he unexpectedly became emotional during an television interview about male pattern baldness, an unidentified production assistant said today.

Lauer was interviewing NBC chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman and when Snyderman, who is a doctor, said, "Some men suffer low self-esteem as a result of their baldness," Lauer burst into tears, threw his glasses across the set and was unable to continue the interview.

According to the assistant, weatherman Al Roker and co-host Savannah Guthrie quickly rushed to Lauer's side, said the staffmember. "Al encouraged him to rub Roker's own bald head while Guthrie softly sang Lauer's favorite song I Think I'm Going Bald by Rush."

Guthrie later explained that the song helps Lauer "to realize he's not alone."

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
