Worried estate agents say they fear a housing price crisis should the world end on either the 21st or 22nd of December 2012 as predicted by the Mayan calendar with some estate agents claiming that many properties could be forced into foreclosure as sales drop and prices either plummet or sky rocket.
"If the world does end the housing market, as always, will feel the brunt" said estate agent Martin Kettle "If you look at other doomsday situations it is always the homeowner who seems to suffer, with homes either destroyed, abandoned or filled with dead people!"
Unable to qualify his statement with facts, figures or even an example of any previous doomsday scenario Martin returned to his squash game.
But the estate agent was not alone in his concerns.
Mortgage lender Halifax fears that the demand for home loans would weaken, should the world come to an end which could affect the general economy.
"Then what?" asked Building society manager Kevin Teapot.
I waited for more from Kevin until I realized he had not posed a rhetorical question and in fact was asking my advice.
"A rise in interest rates?"
"Who knows?" he replied.
Again, unsure if this was a rhetorical question or not I answered.
"Mystic Meg? Russell Grant?"
