If you guys don't want Barack Obama, we'll have him.

Just watched his speech on College Green in Dublin, and it's by far and away the most impressive and optimistic speech I've heard in years.

Sometimes, you guys don't appear to appreciate what you've got until it's gone.

Or maybe some of you guys still yearn for Bush.

Or Palin.

I dunno...

...surely you jest!

Words fail...

It's all a false veneer...no action,no plan,no management ability,and
No experience...lost in space...

Worse than Carter...no clue except for his own high opinion of himself..

He don,t much care for you Guys either...

He does fancy your football though!

Skoob.

Hiya Cap,

Don't get me wrong on this.

It's in no way a cheap shot.

Obama seems like a pretty positive leader to me. As for veneer - isn't there a degree of that in all politicians?

Plus - the whole world's finances got shot to hell under a Republican administration which allowed banks to offer unrealistic interest rates, and Wall Street to engineer the 'lucrative' sub-prime mortgage market.

The global financial crisis began in the USA - nobody can deny that. It also began under a Republican administration.

It was allowed to fester until the bubble burst, despite alarm bells from the world banking community. Again, under the Presidency of George W Bush.

PS - Who nailed Bin Laden?

Regards

Skoob

Better not say Euros to a British person! They'll have your head off! Apparently, everyone hates the EU, which is absurd.

I do like Obama....and he is a very good speaker. I don't like our congress. I think that he's tried to do the right thing over here and he gets side lined every time by a congress who can't get along. I would very much like to form my own country and just invite cool people to live in it.

Does anyone know of a country that isn't messed up? If so, I'd seriously consider moving there!!!!

All the charming rhetoric and dashing latte hued gravitas wears a little thin after a bit.

Turns out he's just the 44th or so Prez in a row to feed us the policies of the bankers and insurance magnates while pretending to pander to "his side."

He gives a nice soliloquy, but I'd take a simple but honest dockworker in a heartbeat. Or even a more forthcoming sort of crook.

I would suggest Newfoundland.

It's not a country and it's full of moose, but they have a good sense of humour and many can carry a tune.

f you can carry a tune you would enjoy it more.

...reminds me of a joke...

..how to tell the difference between male and female moose
During hunting season...the females wear flannel shirts from
LL Bean...

..have you read 'Of Moose and Men"...

...good winter reading waiting for 'mud' season!

Say... we can do a swap. We need a cool-ass leader, and you need a person who isn't right-of-centre (ie Democrats) or stupidly right (ie GOP).

Cameron for Obama. I'd settle for Gordon Brown, but he's, like, not a politician any more.

Also, move to Australia. In the Economist, it says that it is welcoming to immigrants, socially harmonious, politically stable and economically successful and some good beaches too.

Put it this way: AU$1 = US$ 1.10.

The weather's nice, and is open to economic migrants. As a person of European decent (and an American), you'll fit in nicely - most of the cities on the West coast are 'American' whereas those on the East are 'British'.

Ironically though, the Liberal Party are conservative, and the Labor Party are centre-of-right. Don't ask. The Economist didn't explain that bit.

Shit, I should be a product salesman. Forget a fancy degree in Social Psychology.

Well Ellie wherever it is let me recommend Jeopardy - there are more jobs there, the housing market is there, they may not love animals because everything is going to the dogs here but hey, you can't have it all. Anyone else know what is to be found in Jeopardy?

Thanks IH - I will keep Australia in mind. I can always count on you to keep me informed what the Economist has to say.

Good thinking IH.

And did you also know that if your child is born on Australian soil it is automatically, without a doubt, an Australian national? Probably not much of a concern to you right now.

In Western Australia they are crying out for teachers, even those who are not fully or specifically qualified, 'cause the Aussie teachers are all working in the mines where the pay is way better. The rule is that if there isn't an Ausie available, they'll give you a start. Fair bleedin' dinkum!

Yep, Australia could be my next stop, and I'm not even American, or wanting to leave America - which keeps me on topic right?

Oh, well, if everyone is moving to Australia, then I'm moving too!

I don't think they have any toilets in Australia. I've been forced to sit through 'Neighbors' [sic] and no-one seems to go to the loo. NO-ONE.

I don't think they allow Portaloos in the plane's overhead luggage holds either.

Randy, the Economist did say that you can earn comfortable living from the mines. Apparently, there's 100,000 cu.m of unexplored mine-able crap, like coal, and gold and stuff. Sounds a bit like California to me.

You know its compulsory to vote? That doesn't sound too bad, especially with AV.

No, the Australian Tourist Board is not sponsoring me.

However, Ellie, you might need to brush up on measuring stuff. No-one will have a clue when you say that you're 5ft 17in and 90 lbs or whatever you people call yourself. I don't have a clue what that means, myself. They will understand that you are 170cm/1.7m and are 71kg. A heads up there so you don't go out in the summer at 30 C with a snow jacket on when you thought it was 30 F.

Australia.

Lovely place, wonderful people, great place to live.

When I win the Euro Millions I'll move back there and buy a nice 3 bed house 5 miles from the beach.

When the property bubble bursts and the interest rate rises from the all time low of 7% that it's at now I'll buy South Australia and declare it a Republic.

IH - I haven't laughed that hard in a few days! You know how I hate to measure stuff! This is why I just use generic terms like "tall" or "cold." I would just pay someone to measure things for me.

As for gold being in CA? No....that's all been depleted.

Does the Economist say if teachers in Australia get paid more than teachers in Texas? I would look it up myself, but you already have access to the information. I would actually have to google it, and why do that?

Australia or bust!

Oh, my cousin is an Australian teacher. She gets paid AU$50,000 (US$53,350) for working in secondary education (ie. high school). I don't know how senior she is.
